Country in Europe which borders Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. Its capital is Budapest. It was in the Soviet sphere of influence for a while after World War II, but tried to withdraw from the Warsaw Pact in 1956 -- the Soviet Union sent in troops to counteract that. The country was more successful in moving away from the Soviets during the late 1980s and has become more connected with the West than other Eastern European countries.
