The media was waiting for the day that they could coronate JFK Jr. as president. They were very upset when their soap opera dream didn't come true. The media is used to getting what it wants.

It doesn't matter that the man wasn't made of the right stuff to hold political office. The media looked at him and saw his father, their great liberal martyr, with his made-for-TV looks. After the crash, talking head after talking head cried about how it was unfair that JFK Jr. would never hold office. Maybe it was more unfair that they projected all their limousine liberal dreams onto a man who never wanted to be their hero.
