$1.10 Food

The red neon sign proclaiming "$1.10 FOOD" and the more cryptic "$1.10" are havens of cheap eats for the grad student, starving artist, and others on a budget. Generally it is in the window of a Chinese restaurant, and means that most of its dishes are $1.10/serving. Most of these restaurants also have specials for around $3, which frequently includes a combination such as rice, noodles, eggroll, and 2 items from the steam table. The food you will get here will not be fabulously delicious nor painstakingly authentic, but it will usually be good. Some places will have fresher food or pack more of it onto your plate than others, shop around.

Definitely a godsend when hungry and broke, especially since a single special is usually enough for two people, even without adding an extra dish. Yum.
