| An old saying probably dating back from the times of the Roman Empire. Rome, being the center of the known universe and also a state keen on building roads, was most likely the finishing point of any major road those days. Or starting point, come to think of it.
For the Empire, good roads were a major military, political and economical asset. Armies could be moved swiftly from any part of the empire and messangers could travel from Rome to any regional center in a matter of days. And the booming city of Rome accepted enormous amounts of food, goods and travellers every day. Many Roman roads still exist and are used.
These days we could start using "All roads lead to McDonalds", since that's what seem to come up which ever way you choose to go. Oh well. |
