Islamic Glossary Term: Amir means leader or commander in Arabic. The term can be used for family heads as well, but usually its for some sort of voluntary social organisation.

It is also spelt Emir as well.

Amir, from the 3 letter Arabic root verb Aleph Meem Ra. Literaly translates to order. Transliterated as Prince. Amir (male) or Amirah (female) title usualy given to sons and daughters of kings.
