There has been some controvery over this song. After Coolio got a Grammy award that year (probably for the song Gangsta's Paradise), someone asked him about the Weird Al parody, to which he replied that he didn't approve of it, didn't give permission.

However, Weird Al has always gotten permission from the artist before doing a parody, and actually shared some of the profits with that artist.

He has attempted to apologize for the song, feeling rather upset that it could happen. Some people have suggested that he actually did give permission to the record company, and just figured that it would not be considered "cool" for him to appear that way to the fans and other artists in the genre, thus denying it publicly.

He did cash the checks that he has received from Weird Al, however.
