Actor best known for his portrayal of Norman Bates in the original version of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Perhaps the reason his performance was so good in that movie is that his upbringing wasn't much different from Bates, as he was sexually abused by his mother at a young age. He also admitted that he was a virgin until late in his life. All in all, a rather strange chap, but a darned good thespian.
