The Atkinson-Shiffrin model was constructed in the late 1960's as an attempt to explain and understand theoretical structures in the mind. This model borrowed and organized data that had already been collected and became the most widely accepted theory of mental information processing. The three basic structres of the Atkinson-Shiffrin model are the sensory register, short-term memory, and long-term memory.
