Forthcoming sequel to this
hilarious,
continuous parody of
James Bond, the third episode of
Austin Powers is currently to be called "Austin Powers in
Goldmember".
Very few
details have yet been given but the movie was slated to start shooting in Mid
November 2001 with a
premiere in 2002.
The usual
actors will appear (including
Scott Evil who was somehow supposed to have gotten an happy life with his mother at the end of "
The Spy Who Shagged Me").
2
guests have been
conveyed : After
Burt Bacharach and
Elvis Costello, we may see
Quincy Jones and
Britney Spears.
This episode is rumoured to be the final Powers.
Myers will recreate the title character, his notorious
nemesis Dr. Evil and
Fat Bastard, the Scottish
spy who eats anything and everything.
He'll also play a new villain, the eponymous Goldmember, who, according to director
Jay Roach, has some interesting qualities.
Planned for July 26th 2002, the producers have however received a
cease-and-desist letter from
James Bond's
makers who just can't bear this
parodic name.
Update : Sunday October 27th 2002
The above legal problems must have been sorted out in some ways because I could finally watch it in Switzerland where it has come a few days ago.
As an introduction, we get what we all secretely dream about : an
exploding helicopter. I guess this sound promising, especially when we see that this is supposed to be featured in a
Steven Spielberg Austin Powers movie in which
Tom Cruise (I just could not believe my eyes) plays Austin and
Danny de Vito Mini-Me.
Then comes the following : Austin congratulates the gifted
filmmaker, then introduces us to Quincy Jones and also has a fight against the fembotted Britney Spears whom he says, after she explodes "
Oops, I did it again".
I could go through the entire story and spoil its surprises but it is not my intended purpose.
So, Austin Powers 3 is the last Austin Powers to be seen. Not because it is bad, I actually laughed a lot, especially when Goldmember has some
intercultural issues with the others actors... One could wonder whether Mike Myers could have had problem with
Dutch people ?
But hey, my wife who was with me didn't like it as much as the previous, it is obvious that a movie in which you see that the key actors, Powers and Evil fraternize is not meant to have a sequel.
A movie in which Fat Bastard (you
have to see him as a
sumotori) "deflates" is a movie that tells about the end and this is the reason, even if you may laugh a lot you could be quite disappointed knowing there will never be another Austin Powers...
So, Hell : the above rumour was actually true. I hope something else will come, now.
