Avenue of the Americas

A shibboleth by which out-of-towners betray themselves. No New Yorker calls the street "Avenue of the Americas" even though the street is clearly labelled that way; they call it "Sixth Avenue" because it is a more poetic and suggestive name.

Another test of out-of-townliness is "Houston Street" - the uninitiated pronounce it as if it were a town in Texas. It is pronounced Howston like the director.
