Although the song was very popular in the states and on the charts, it did not earn Barry any fame with soldiers. Most Special Forces members detest the song and Barry. They feel it trivialises them, their contributions, and their sacrifices. Barry also wrote the popular pulp series titled "Casca" about a roman soldier who speared Christ on the cross and was damned to walk the earh as an immortal warrior until Christ returned. It's a fun read. I always liked the song, but then again I was only a paratrooper, not a green beret.
