Primary Plot: Dr. Franklin operates on a young alien boy without parental permission to save his life, causing a political nightmare.
Secondary Plot: Ivanova takes out a Starfury wing to rescue a ship being attacked by raiders.
Commentary: This episode feels very much like an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation--the whole thing with Franklin operating without permission on an alien child practically screams "Prime Directive" in all but name. The secondary plot is fairly worthless, except for developing Ivanova's character a bit.
