Deadpan stand up comedian and television sitcom star. He is most famous for two shows which both aired on CBS, The Bob Newhart Show, in which he played a psychologist in Chicago, and Newhart, in which he owned a small inn in Vermont. His humour is at its best when he plays off eccentric characters, often as the avatar of common sense. This particularly was well suited for the ealier show where he played the shrink.
