One of the largest New Deal dams, the Bonneville Dam spans the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon, 40 miles east of Portland, OR. Constructed between 1933 and 1943 for flood control and power production, it is 197 feet high and 2,690 feet long. Constructed primarily by the US Army Corps of Engineers, it was dedicated on September 28, 1937 by President Roosevelt.
