Butt joint

(thing) by biff Mon Jul 30 2001 at 21:57:59
Among the simplest of woodworking joints, and also among the weakest. The end of one piece of wood is simply butted against the face of another, and fastened with screws, glue, or other means.

Butt joints provide little rigidity, but are very quick to assemble.

A butt joint may be strengthened through the use of a spline, or when attached with dowels or biscuits.
