CMT's 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music

On June 5, 2003, Country Music Television (CMT) unveiled the 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music on the eve of Nashville's annual Fan Fair country music festival. CMT asked music critics, historians and journalists to identify 600 of country's greatest songs. Then voting members of the Country Music Association voted for and ranked the top 100. Record sales and chart standing were ignored, voters were told to rate the "emotional, visceral connection people have to a song" according to Kaye Zusmann, CMT's vice president of program development and production. The list is good way of introducing someone to country music, since it contains a wide variety of songs from various eras. The entire list is presented here in the following format:
