California Über Alles

The title California Über Alles is a reference to Deutschland Über Alles, the national anthem of Germany (the anthem predates the Nazi regime but it was used at, for example, the Nuremberg rally.

Second, everyone in the political landscape should consider the fact that, in the late 70s, it didn't seem insane to compare the government of Jerry Brown to the Third Reich. As the Heroes pointed out, Jerry Brown doesn't hold a candle to Pete Wilson (or, arguably, to Gray Davis) when it comes to fascist behavior.

• Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy: more of a re-write, really, as they update the lyrics, much the way Biafra did with "Love Me, I'm a Liberal." From both Hiphoprisy is the Greatest Luxury and Virus 100.
• John Linnell: yes, from They Might Be Giants fame. A surprisingly straitforward cover--no accordians or other weird, Spike Jonez-esque touches. Plus, Linnell has that kind of high, nasally voice which the song just screams for.
• Six Feet Under: a very heavy metal version. Too much Slayer for these kids. Plus, the guy sings in this death-metal voice. Quite a shock, when you're used to that nasal whine of Biafra's. From Graveyard Classics
• Sheep On Drugs: The Dub version. Kinda weird--the vocals are hard to make out, being so distorted. Sounds like a robot (appropriate?) From Dread Kennedys--In Dub We Trust
• Vitamin L: A punk-rap version--not bad, but doesn't touch the DHoH. From the compilation What Were We Fighting For?.
• Soulfly: live cover. Jello joins them and does the vocals. I think it's from about 1996.
