Nominally a jazz producer, but, in fact, a top pop svengali of the 60s/70s. He put Wes Montgomery in lush settings, with arrangements of Beatles tunes, "California Dreaming" and such; after Wes' death, he plugged George Benson into the guitar chair without missing a beat. Via his CTI and Kudu labels, he did the same for jazzers from Grover Washington, Jr. to Idris Muhammad to Hubert Laws to Bob James, et al; there was even disco music. Execrable "jazz". Sold like the proverbial hotcakes.
