| In crystallography, any material whose basic unit cell is in the shape of a cube, as opposed to a hexagon. It can take many forms, from something such as a simple cubic, with only the atoms at the corners, to something like steel, with a Body Centered Cubic structure having the iron atoms at the corners with another iron atom in the middle and a carbon atom squished in beside it. The Simple Cubic arrangements are less common because they leave more space between the atoms. |
