The Devil's Golf Course is not a golf course as the name might suggest, but rather a fascinating area of Death Valley National Park in California that features intricate columns of rock hard, razor sharp, crystallized salt that have been sculpted by hundreds of years of wind and rain into a plethora of elaborate shapes. The jagged salt pinnacles are formed as salty water from the underlying mud evaporates and rises upwards, leaving behind a residue that then hardens, eventually forming structures up to two feet high. This process takes a great deal of time, and some think that the columns grow as slowly as one inch every thirty years.
