As the name implies, False River is not a river at all. It is an oxbow lake created by a change in the course of the Mississippi River many years ago. Located about 20 miles northwest of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, it forms a nearly perfect semicircle about 10 miles long and half a mile wide covering around 3,000 acres.
This lake is popular with anglers fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill.
The area around the lake is built up with small single-family homes and fishing camps, most built on about an acre of land or so. The town of New Roads, with a population of 5,000, sits on the northwest bank. |
