Also known as the Day the Music Died. The day when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper died in a plane crash near Clear Lake Iowa. This day and the general shift in musical directions that followed afterwards were forever immortalized in Don McLean's classic song American Pie.
