Irish political party, founded in 1924 by Eamon de Valera. Initially the party of the anti-treaty faction in the Irish Civil War, the party grew to be the largest political movement in Ireland. The name means "Soldiers of Destiny", and is taken from a line in the Irish National Anthem.
