Here is a traditional notation for a guitar chord. It is a diagram of the neck of a guitar, with the head end of the guitar pointing up. The double line:

on top is the nut. The vertical lines:

("||||||")

are the strings. The numbers are the finger numbers, where the index finger is "1" and the little finger is "4". The notes at the bottom are the notes each string plays. In the final section are the notes that make up the chord. In the example below, the F# major chord is made up of the root note, F#, the third note, A#, and the fifth note, C#.
