| Hagbard Celine is a lead character in The Illuminatus! Trilogy, a work of science fiction by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shae. In the book, Celine is a Discordian, an anarchist, a pirate and a drug dealer. He travels around the world in his giant golden submarine (the Leif Erikson) converting unproductive members of society (such as law-enforcement officers) to his cause.
Celine graduated from Harvard University with a double-major in contract law and naval engineering. His resume includes a stint as a piano player in a whorehouse.
Hagbard Celine was also the handle of Karl Koch, a German hacker and member of the Chaos Computer Club. Koch allegedly stole software from military and educational computer systems on the Internet and sold them to the KGB. After being discovered, Koch was murdered or committed suicide in 1989 by being doused in gasoline and set on fire. The story of Koch being tracked down is told in Cuckoo's Egg, a book by Cliff Stoll.
