How to balance a tonearm

Whenever you put a different stylus, headshell, or cartridge into a turntable, you need to balance the tonearm so you know how much weight is being placed on the record. To do this, you should first adjust the height of the tonearm to the recommended height for your stylus. If your stylus doesn't have a recommended height setting, make sure that the tonearm is level when the needle is placed on the record. Some turntables do not have height adjustments. Next, twiddle the weight at the end of the tonearm until it is perfectly balanced, i.e. it stays level without you touching it.. Slide the ring on the weight around so that it reads "0". You now have a balanced tonearm. Congratulations!

Now, set the weight to the recommended stylus pressure, and go on to set youranti-skate.
