Refers to the challenger's desire to point out the logical fallacies in the other person's argument. In a satirical kind of way, it's supposed to say, "Please listen just so you can hear how stupid you truly are."

It is certainly not counter-intuitive, because it alerts your opponent that you disagree, and at the same time informs him/her/it that you aren't taking the situation entirely seriously and you're willing to be hospitable. Only a fool would use this adage in a subordinate sort of way, or perhaps someone seeking bondage and a dominatrix.
