For example, if one
cuts and the other
picks, but only if the
crooks are about
even in
size and
strength and
reputation and so on, so that neither has an
unfair advantage, and able to put
pressure on the cutter or picker. But if there is an unfair advantage then
the whole system goes to hell without a crooked
intermediary who is average in strength or bigger than both. An
alternative method is also the
equal cuts and picks method, described in
Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game which involves one person cutting and then the other person cutting and picking. Read
