Janwillem is an author of novels who fall mostly under the mystery genre. Born in Rotterdam in 1931, he has spent the last 30 years writing. He has studied Zen in Japan and philosophy in London. Also, he briefly part-timed as a cop in Amsterdam. Consquently, (or not) his most popular is the "Amsterdam cops series" about a pair of detectives named Grijpstra and de Gier. (He writes in Dutch. The english translation is excellent, however.) His style of writing (or its translation) is very smooth and has a flow to it that makes you want to keep reading until your eyes fall off. His plots tend to center around moral and philosophical issues though he doesn't take things too seriously. A great author if you're looking for a relaxing distraction.
