• American Beauty - Green Bay Packers tight-end Mark Chmura for having sex with his 17 year-old babysitter at an after-prom party. (Allegedly)
• Arthritis Sabonis - Portland Trailblazers center Arvidis Sabonis (very bad joints)
• ATM - Seattle Supersonics guard Gary Payton for getting held up with over $60,000 worth of cash and jewelry on his person.
• Barry Manilow - Joe Montana
• Blob (the) - a portly female sports radio host officially referred to as the Fabulous Sports Babe
• Blue Hair - elderly folk
• Bong Morris - Bam Morris, Pittsburgh Steelers running back, for his arrest on possesion of marijuana
• Chernobyl - Tommy Lasorda for the manager's tendency to "melt down," i.e., lose his temper
• Chowderhead - resident of Boston
• Cocaine Wayne - football coach Wayne Fontes, for his prior cocaine possesion arrest
• D-Cup - reference to USC football coach John Robinson's enormous breasts
• Dionne Ewing - Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks, for having "manhole cover" like nasal passages similar to Dionne Warwick
• Fat Antonio - San Antonio affiliate, for being named as having the most overweight citizens in the nation in a survey
• Fresh Prince - NBA player Robert Horry due to his resemblence to actor Will Smith
• Fresneck - Fresno, California affiliate
• Gangsta Hooper - Nick Van Exel for shoving a referee and past violent behavior
• Goateater - baseball player Kevin Mitchell, so called when players wondered what happened to a goat that the Chicago Cubs were using for good luck
• Godfather (the) - Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis (from Davis' supposed secretive, megalomaniacal role on his team)
• Ike Cox - Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox, who was charged with beating his wife. In reference to singer Ike Turner who was arrested for beating his wife, Tina Turner
• Isiah McGyver - NBA player Isiah Rider, for making a bong out of a Sprite can
• Jabba the Popovich - reference to NBA coach Greg Popovich's likeness to Jabba the Hutt
• Jurassic Evans - reference to the age of NFL quarterback Vince Evans, who at 40 played for the Raiders
• Moellered - To be intoxicated. From former University of Michigan football coach Gary Moeller's incident where he was drunk and told the police to "take me to jail boys" rather than take a taxi home
• Multicolored Fishwrap (the) - USAToday
• Nintendo Griffey - baseball player Ken Griffey Jr. for playing the game so effortlessly that it looks like he's playing a video game
• Nutty Professor (The) - NFL head coach Dennis Green, reference to the Eddie Murphy movie character who kept getting fatter and fatter
• Quittick Bowe - boxer Riddick Bowe, who joined the Marines only to quit 3 days into boot camp
• Serta - NBA player Elden Campell, for appearing to be half asleep when he plays
• Shashank Graf - Stefi Graf's father Helmit, who has spent time in prison for tax evasion
• USS Parcells - Football coach Bill Parcells, for his rather large girth

• Chowds - short for Chowderheads, as defined above
• Clones - Rome listeners and fans.
• Cycling Guy (Soccer Guy, Track Guy, etc.) - the one guy in the office that finds it necessary to wear his following of a minor sport as a badge of honor. Manifested in such ways as buying a Lance Armstrong USPS jersey and cycling to work during or after another Tour de France victory (and stinking up the place, since he can't take a shower on arrival), wearing a Manchester United jersey despite the fact that he's never been within 3,000 miles of Old Trafford, trying to spread the gospel that others really just don't care about, and other such obnoxious traits.
• Huge Call - call containing multiple takes, usually in quick succession, that do not suck. One Huge Call of the Day is named each show.
• Jungle - the show, or sometimes just the studio. Callers and guests alike are welcomed to the Jungle when they first speak; Rome may reference the studio this way when saying that "Steve Elkington just decided to stop by the Jungle today -- how're you doing, Elk?"
• Pimp in the Box (the) - nickname for Rome himself
• Rack him - said by Rome after a Huge Call; racked calls are reviewed during breaks at the end to determine the Huge Call of the Day.
• Rae-enthal - former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Rae Carruth, convicted of murder for having his pregnant wife killed
• Raiderfan (Chargerfan, Pacerfan, etc.) - short term used for any team's fans in general, e.g. Even the LAPD is afraid of Raiderfan.
• take - opinion. Rome's commandment to callers is "Have a take, do not suck."
• Van Smack - nickname for Rome himself
• WAR - from Auburn's "War Eagle" battle cry, a term of approval, usually used at the end of a call right before the caller hangs up. For example, I might say "War Virginia Tech, war Blacksburg Tour Stop, war five-year plan. I'm out."

The key to enjoying Rome is to remember that his show is not a "hard sports" show (in the sense that, say, CNN Newsday is hard news), but is rather as much about the callers as anything else. Perhaps half of Rome's calls and e-mails in each show are actually about sports; the rest are basically the clones talking smack about each other.
