Life in Wartime Britain

E.R. Chamberlin's 1972 book about daily life in (mainly) England during World War II. Highly readably and informative on topics like air raids, food-rationing, the Ministry of Information, Allied troops in England, and the takeover of civilian life by total war. An excellent introduction to further (and more detailed) reading on the subject.
