Had a one-way rivalry with Elektra, their original label. They were The Clash long before punk, fusing leftist politics, Chuck Berry, Sun Ra, proto-punk and ur-metal. Guitar-god Wayne Kramer is still guitaring; Fred "Sonic" Smith married Patti Smith - he is the "Frederick" of her ode of the same name. "You're the one / As we travel / from sun to sun" and all that. |
