Original Six

Term used to denote the "original six" teams in the National Hockey League. One problem: they're not the original six, nor were there originally six teams in the league. But the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Boston Bruins formed the longest-running version of the NHL, prior to expansion teams doubling the league's size after 1966-67. The term ignores teams like the long-defunct Montreal Maroons and New York Americans.
