Papel Picado is a decoration used for
El Dia De Los Muertos. It is usually made of
tissue paper that was stacked, then, using a
chisel, decorated by removing paper in a pattern. The pattern usually shows
Marigolds, the flower of the dead, an every day scene, such as
skeletal workers in the field, or just a pretty
lace style
pattern. These pieces of paper are then
affixed to a string that is hung from the
ceiling. It is not uncommon for there to be
hundreds of pieces of this brightly
colored paper decorating a single house.
