When it became apparent that the estate of
Dr. Seuss was not going to free up its refusal to permit him to compose chamber music featuring
Seussical words, classical musucian and
satirist Cam Wilson approached
CBC personality and professional wit
Bill Richardson to provide him with lyrics for
whimsical - but
ironic - children's music. He ultimately presented a suite of the following works, dealing in
nursery-rhyme idiom with adult issues such as
diet fads,
consumerism, the
stock market and
anti-depressants:
The work, commissioned by the
LCMSTCS, was premiered on
March 11, 2001 at the
Green Eggs and Cam event at
the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, sung by soprano
Rosalind Beale-Dala. The text of its songs was once listed here, but no more! Hope you enjoy their titles at least.
