Following the accusations about "satanic murders", there are incidents where the perpetrators have connected the crimes to rituals that could be called "satan-worshipping", in the Christian sense. For example, one ritual murder was perpetrated by three "satan worshippers" in Finland. Whether or not this was "Satanic" or "ritual" is a matter of definition, but it was determinedly done by believers you could call Christian Satanists, that is, people who believe in the demon Satan from the Christian faith. The following text contains detailed description.
Hyvinkää, Finland, Halloween 1999. A group of youngsters are having a party. One 17-year old girl and three 16-, 22- and 23-year-old men were there. They drank a lot of self-made alcohol. Then they proceeded to do rituals and sacrifices, which they had themselves collaged from movies, music and other media. In the course of the evening, they sacrificed a dog and then one of the participants. They tortured, drank the blood of and murdered the victim. After that, they dug out and ate his internal and sexual organs, conducted necrophilia on him, drilled holes into his severed head and finally sawed him into pieces, which were put to the garbage.
The criminal investigation started when a leg was found from a dump site. The pieces were collected from a dump site, thus giving the name "dump site murder" (kaatopaikkasurma) to the case. The 16-year-old man was considered to be innocent, because he said that the older men forced him to participate, but the others were convicted. The oldest, Mr. Jarno Sebastian Elg, received a life sentence. Ms. Terhi Johanna Tervashonka got 8 years and 6 months, because she was not an adult nor sane. Mr. Mika Kristian Riska got 2 years and 8 months for assault and "violation of a grave", which in this case applies to unburied corpses, too.
The motivation behind this was simple. They believed in a character from the Christian faith, Satan, who they believed to be rewarding the most evil. Of course, the "Church of Satan" is not Christian and does not accept that belief. Calling the perpetrators "Satanists" is not in line with the Church of Satan principles, as what the perpetrators did was only stupid and a result of a twisted Christian faith.
