Name comes from the refrain of The Silhouettes'
rock and roll classic "Get a Job". Sha Na Na began as an
a capella lark by some
Columbia University students in the late 60s; they added a band, and lucked into an important gig -
Woodstock. It got better: the
Rock and Roll Revival made their all-50s repertoire popular. The boom faded, but they had their own
syndicated variety show by decade's end. Now on the
nostalgia circuit, for those nostalgic for those
70s days of 50s
nostalgia.
