A Ship in a Bottle is an ornament, often to be found in living rooms and gift shops, made by a traditional method which is centuries old. The ship is always too large to be able to fit through the neck of the bottle, and people have spent hours discussing how the ship got there.
I used to think they made the ship first and then blew the glass around it to make the bottle, but this is not the case. The bottle was there first, and the ship is infact painstakingly constructed through the neck of the bottle, using tweezers and copper wire, by a master craftsman. As with most industries, trade associations exist: The European Association of Ships in Bottles, and The Ships in Bottles Association of America. Well someone's gotta do it.
