| The first installment of the Wurlitzer Trilogy by the creative photographer Arthur Tress. Teapot Opera is a series of highly interesting and allegorical photographs that present both a Creation story and the essential tale of a seeker who searches far and wide, but finally discovers that searching inward is what's truly rewarding.
The Teapot Opera takes place on a Victorean stage, and begins with the caption "In the beginning, there was a teapot." The teapot explodes, and the rest of the metaphorical story unfolds, told by arrangements of odd figurines mostly assembled from kitchen junk and loosely guided by Tress's captions. Elements of the legends of such sojourners as Odysseus and Icarus can be found throughout, and the series seems to exemplify shallow postwar optimism in a mythological setting. |
