Xotl was a god of death in the Aztec pantheon, roughly equivalent in appearance and function to the Egyptian Anubis.

He was depicted with the head of a dog, and is supposed to have functioned as a kind of negative Apollo or Ra, guiding the sun safely through the underworld each night.

"Xotl" is also used as a prefix on certain Nahuatl (Aztec) words, generally meaning "to break" or "to destroy".

Also known as "Xolotl".
