Daryl Hall -- yes, that Daryl Hall -- sings Fripp's deliberately unsingable lyrics ("It must be real bad karma/For this to be my dharma/With you"). Meanwhile, Fripp, notorious for his insanely complex musical styles, must cope with Hall's deliberately uncomplex music -- basically a 4/4 blues-rock progression that would be playable by anyone who ever took one guitar lesson. Most Fripp fans of my acquaintance have pretty strong feelings about this unusual pairing, which began when Fripp produced and played on Hall's vastly underrated (and underheard) first solo album, Sacred Songs. |
