The Rodney Dangerfield of rock music, created by The Beatles as they grafted elements of (European and Indian) classical, Tin Pan Alley, and Dylan to their rhythm and blues roots. Later artists, from King Crimson (orchestrations/free improvisation) to Brian Eno (Zen and shamanism and world music) to Sonic Youth (noise), added their own unique graftings to the medium. But surveys show that most consumers prefer their rock artless.
