The process by which a slice of culture is repackaged into a marketable commodity. Most insidious when done by a major corporation. Such acts usually upset people to the point at which a protest ensues.

Some examples:

• Pocahantas: The Disney movie.
• Taco Bell: Arguable, but like many other restaurant chains, its food offerings are most likely contrived by a focus group rather than made from a time honored family recipe.
• Green tea by celestial seasonings: Adds a whole bunch of flavors that wouldn't be found in traditional Green tea.

Of course, just because some bit o' culture has been bastardized, doesn't mean one doesn't have to like it. In fact, the law of averages says that one probably will. Perhaps bastardization is the true method of progress by which things happen...
