catty-corner

A colloquialism describing something located in a diagonal direction (sometimes catty-cornered). Old Mrs. Donley's house is located catty-corner to yours, while the Phillips family lives catty-corner across the alley and Lori Hansen sits in the desk catty-corner in front of you in school.

Derived from now obsolete "catercorner" (cater="four" + corner).
