Describes a political proclamation or other linguistic act in which the expressions used have the effect of hiding the unpleasant realities actually being described. It goes beyond euphemism; its intention is not to avoid hurt feelings, but to deceive.

In recent times, many politicians have found the expression "for the children" to be useful in creating double-talk.

Also known as: doubletalk, doublespeak, double-speak, doublethink, double-think.
