Dymaxion(tm) is a shorter name for what is known as the "Fuller Projection Dymaxion Map Design". A map projection scheme in the vein as the Mercator, except that the Dymaxion is a "top down view" (ie, the center of the map at the north pole) and it is layed out as teselated triangles, and when combined form an Icosahedron (thanks Gorgonzola) . Designed by the Buckminster Fuller Design Institute.

A word invented by Richard Buckminster Fuller as a portmantau of "dynamic" and "maximum service". It was also the name of several of Fuller's inventions such as the Dymaxion car, the Dymaxion sleep schedule, and the Fuller projection as xunker said above.
