Puppy chow is a frighteningly simple sugary snack! It's a great food to make with kids but it works well for an easy party dish for any age. Even though its name may be misleading, DO NOT feed this to a puppy, dog, or any canine! This food is for human consumption only.

Ingredients

• 2 cups (500 mL) chocolate chips
• 15 ounces (420 g) rice cereal (Crispix, Rice Chex, etc.)
• 1 cup (250 mL) creamy peanut butter
• 1/2 cup (125 mL) margarine
• 3 cups (750 mL) powdered sugar/confectioner's sugar/icing sugar

Directions

Combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and margarine in a glass bowl. Heat on highest power level in microwave until melted. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Add the cereal and stir until completely coated. Place powdered sugar in a bag, add cereal mix, and shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper and let stand until set.

Suggestions

• An alternative to the microwave is to melt the ingredients on the stove. Heat some water in a pot until just above simmering and place a bowl with the ingredients on the pot. Stir the mixture often and keep a close eye on it! This alternative will work if you don't have access to a microwave, if you don't have a glass bowl, or if you just want to make this recipe feel more gourmet than it actually is.
