A sub-species of
calculator
specially suited for
scientific
calculations
. Aside from the usual functions of
addition
,
subtraction
,
multiplication
and
division
, a scientific calculator can usually "do"
squares
,
square roots
,
exponents
,
trigonometric
functions
and other stuff mostly of interest to a
scientist
,
mathematician
,
engineer
or
high school student
. Some examples, fairly randomly chosen, are these models:
TI-51, TI-52,
TI-92
,
TI-85
,
TI-80

Another widespread model is the
Casio CFX-9950GB PLUS
, with a variable 3-color, mid-resolution display. 64KB of internal memory, and a very potent programming language, very similar to
Basic
. Has all the basic and not so basic mathemathical functions in a graphic environment, so you'll know that you didn't push the wrong keys.
Regression
,
recursion
,
derivation
,
integral
,
matrixes
,
simultaneous equations
with up to 6 unknowns, and
polynominal equations
up to the third degree in a very intuitive environment, as opposed to Texas. A very potent graphic function module, with many tools of graphic solverage. It's only true shortcoming as I see it, is in the integral calculus department. Texas has so many more functions here, though I'm working on a program that I hope will make up for some of this. It can work with values up to 9.999...*10^99, and can do so in quite a few systems of notation. It also has a rather advanced
financial
module, and a bunch of features I haven't gotten to yet; Such as a coms-port for transfering between calculators, between calculators and
peripherals
, and between calculators and home computers. Dynamic curves is also a function I haven't really messed with yet.
If you treat it right, this piece of hardware will never let you down :)
