A skin
graft is a common
medical procedure which involves
surgically
implanting
healthy skin on a patient who has lost
tissue due to a
burn or other
injury. Most often, this new skin is obtained from an uninjured part of the patient where there is extra skin, such as the
thigh or
abdomen. It is possible to graft skin
obtained from another person, but this increases the risk that the patient's body will
reject the new skin because it is
foreign.
