The trap-door spider, or Araneae Ctenizidae, is a type of spider known for digging burrows, which they line with silk and are entered through camouflaged doors. The trap-door spider can then rush out from its hidden burrow to snatch its prey.

Apparently related to the tarantula, but probably not as likely to inspire arachnophobia.

Also, the name of a club Isaac Asimov belonged to (well, The Trap-Door Spiders), which I gather was a group of similarly-minded curmudgeons in New York who had lunch together on Tuesdays and told horrible jokes to each other, as mentioned in passing in his second anthology of jokes, Asimov Laughs Again.
